Child Presence Detection Intervention Service Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

No, the eCall only allows one voice connection to the vehicle. In contrast, the process of detecting a child’s presence requires a communication line from a third party to adults outside the vehicle who are able to rescue the child.

Bosch Service Solutions will be contacted for the intervention phase of the Child Presence Detection Service. After the first two stages have only been carried out with the vehicle and/or the app, a responsible contact person must be called in the third stage. She is either informed and led back to the car to solve the situation, or the rescue teams are turned on to save the child.

As an established global provider of security services, for example for eCall, we are very experienced with the necessary service processes and rely on an existing PSAP (Public Safety Answering Points) network for all required markets.

Our customers can fully rely on our extensive experience as an emergency service provider and the existing PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) network. We are a neutral service integrator with experience in implementing and operating complex service facilities and integrating external partners. In addition, we are updated on the latest developments of the European NCAP protocol regarding the requirements for presence detection of children as well as the law on heat-polluted cars (Hot Cars Act).

We are a neutral service integrator, regardless of the manufacturer or brand of sensors installed in the vehicle. If desired, we as the Bosch Group can also offer a holistic solution including the necessary sensors and technology.

The vehicle must be able to connect to a mobile network to send the alarm to an OEM backend or directly to the Bosch backend. In most cases, vehicle connectivity is established via a telematics control unit (TCU).

Direct interaction with the child via a communication channel to the car is possible as an element of the intervention service to Child Presence Detection. Our customer decides individually whether this additional voice channel should be set up via Bosch. Calls are required to inform an adult or a responsible contact person outside the vehicle about the child left behind and, if necessary, to inform the emergency services.

It is possible to set a logic in the order of potential contacts. This order can be set individually by the manufacturer, or Bosch makes the most sensible suggestion during the service design process.

The position of the vehicle is first determined by the GNSS unit (Global Navigation Satellite System) in the vehicle and then transmitted from the vehicle to Bosch via the TCU (Telematics Control Unit). Bosch is therefore dependent on the validity of the vehicle position. Bosch has no influence on the availability of a mobile network through which the vehicle can transmit the data.

The detection of a left dog or child is done by the sensor of the OEM in the vehicle. Bosch is therefore dependent on the sensor signal and, in particular, on the corresponding alarm (for example, child detected, dog detected), which is transmitted to the Bosch backend. From a customer service perspective, Bosch is able to handle an incident involving a dog left in the car.

It is important that the OEM takes into account the legal requirements and possible financial implications for the deployment of the rescue team, which may vary from country to country. In the case of the dog left behind, this must be carefully checked in advance.

Bosch informs the PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) about the incident, and it is the final responsibility of the authorities to decide which deployment teams will be sent to the site depending on the individual case.
